  • Lenovo sees sales jump

    Lenovo Group, the world's fourth-largest PC maker, reported a 17 percent jump in sales for the last fiscal year, led by continued strong PC demand in China and other markets.

  • New Cisco Systems client/server messaging protocol

    This week Cisco Systems announced a new messaging protocol intended to allow developers to integrate client/server applications without the overhead of traditional protocols such as SOAP. The new protocol, Etch, was introduced at a developer's conference covering the new 2.5 release of the Cisco Unified Application Environment (CUAE). Etch is slated to go into beta release this summer.

    As many as 23 percent of home computers are unaffected with malware, and of those, more than 70 percent had been infected in the past year, are among the alarming findings of AusCERT's first home computer user survey.

  • HP promises patch for XP SP3 endless reboot snafu

    HP has confirmed that some users of its AMD-based desktops have had problems after installing Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3), and said it would issue a patch this week to prevent machines from spiraling into endless reboots. HP also told users to delay installing XP SP3 until that patch was released.
