In Pictures: Inside Reddit

Reddit has it all: With its ear to the Internet the social site pumps out controversy, interviews, videos and stories.

  • Yes the hot social site Reddit has a section about the most adorable animal shots ever but obviously, it has become way more than that. Reuters recently described the Reddit website as having a retro-'90s look and space-alien mascot that tracks everything from online news to celebrity Q&As. The site is also going after more eyeballs and advertising of course, by letting members of its passionate community post their own news more quickly and easily, Reuters noted. The news agency recently did a photo collage of Reddit’s headquarters in San Francisco. Here we look at the Reuters pics and add a few more of our own to give you a bigger picture view of Reddit.

The companies oppose bills designed to curb access and payments to overseas websites that traffic in stolen content or counterfeit goods on the grounds that it could put them in legal peril.

  • About 62% of Reddit users get their news through the platform while about half of all Facebook and Twitter users do the same, according to a recent report on the State of the News Media from the Pew Research Center.

  • According to Reuters: Reddit has more than 114 million unique visitors worldwide and has doubled its traffic in 12 months. Facebook has more than 1 billion users and Twitter has more than 240 million.

  • Reuters said Reddit's community of millions can quickly coalesce to unearth news as it did on developing stories such as the shooting in Aurora, Colo., where Reddit members first found a dating profile of the accused shooter James Holmes. After the Boston marathon attack, Reddit members falsely identified suspects. On the other hand, Reddit was applauded for nixing a subreddit dedicated to finding shooters involved in killing the Washington Navy Yard killings last year.

  • Reddit TV offered an easy way to view videos posted to Reddit.

  • RedditPics pulls photos posted to Reddit and makes them easier to browse.
