The NZ-Hi Tech Awards 2014 finalists were announced at three simultaneous events held at Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington yesterday evening.

Rob Lee, MD of IBM NZ started the proceedings for the event in Auckland. IBM hosted the Auckland event in its offices in the city.

Wayne Norrie, chair of the Hi-Tech Trust, stated that the ICT industry in NZ was a secret that should not be a secret. He described the Hi-Tech Awards initiative as an effort to highlight and recognise the 'tall poppies' in the industry.

A rapt audience listed as Norrie announced the finalists across all twelve categories.

As finalists were announced, they were encouraged to step forward and collect an envelope with details.

Finalists included MNCs such as Cisco and Fujitsu, as well as home-grown firms such as Vend, Xero and V-Mob.

The NZ Hi-Tech Awards 2014 categories are being judged by 40 judges, including international names as well as New Zealand ones. Most judges are involved only in single categories. The set of judges in Auckland who attended the event yesterday were proud to be a part of the Awards.
