Micro Focus® (LSE.MCRO.L), a leading provider of Enterprise Application Modernisation, Testing and Management solutions, today announces four new product releases that will enable customers to develop, analyse and test the highest quality code, greatly simplifying the tasks and challenges faced by application developers. All of these products will be fully integrated with Visual Studio 2010, allowing developers to improve efficiency and productivity by utilising Micro Focus’s developer tools directly from within Visual Studio 2010.

Micro Focus COBOL enables developers to exploit existing enterprise applications on the Microsoft platform. The majority of organisations that still operate COBOL-based applications now have a low risk opportunity to take advantage of Visual Studio 2010 without the need for rewriting their applications. The time savings this generates will enable higher productivity and deliver improved ease-of-use for developers, as well as allowing them to exploit emerging platforms and environments, such as Cloud Computing.

Micro Focus Silk4J, the proven choice of QA professionals for powerful, functional and regression test automation, brings the best test automation capabilities to Visual Studio 2010. It will create the opportunity to build quality applications earlier in the lifecycle and ensure they are seamlessly integrated. This will eliminate lengthy testing processes and will allow organisations to maximise return on investment (ROI), while minimising time expended on the critical testing process. Additionally, due to Micro Focus’ agnostic approach, Silk4J supports all applications, whether currently on a Microsoft platform or not.

Micro Focus DevPartner Studio, a suite that enables developers to debug, analyze, test and tune applications, will deliver enhanced visibility into the inner workings of applications being developed within Visual Studio 2010. Such capability will enable developers to rapidly identify and remedy any problem or glitch with the application under development, ensuring rapid root cause analysis and increased developer efficiency. DevPartner will also help organisations validate their applications before and after upgrading to Visual Studio 2010, ensuring complete business continuity and maximising developer productivity.

Micro Focus Analyzer Express for Visual Studio, a visibility tool, will help developers accelerate their day-to-day maintenance activities. Developers currently find it difficult to understand the structure and behaviour of their complex applications. This slows the execution of much needed business requirements. Analyzer Express traces data flow through a program with one click of the mouse from within Visual Studio 2010. Developers can quickly assess a program, find artefacts of interest, and make needed enhancements without switching tools.

“We are delighted to be offering customers the ability to develop and deliver higher quality products” said Peter Duffell, Vice President, Strategic Partners of Micro Focus. “Our presence in the roll-out of Visual Studio 2010 demonstrates both the relevance of core COBOL assets within global organisations’ IT infrastructures and the demand from the developer community to exploit them on Microsoft platforms. As we look forward to the future, Micro Focus will continue to work closely with its customers to provide them with tools, applications and software to support their business and vision for success.”

Neil Willby, Systems Director at Eurorealm Consultants Ltd., a Beta customer for the new Micro Focus COBOL, confirmed: “We’re excited to see Micro Focus playing such an integral role in the launch of Visual Studio 2010. COBOL continues to play a major part in today’s economy, so it is essential that Visual Studio 2010 embraces these tools and allows the developer ecosystem to evolve existing core applications on new platforms.”
