VERITAS NetBackup: Simplicity, Security, Agility
Latest release speeds restores, enhances security and simplifies management
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – June 16, 2004 – VERITAS Software Corporation (Nasdaq: VRTSE) today announced a series of innovations to the industry’s number one backup and recovery software, VERITAS NetBackup™. Further delivering on the company’s commitment to provide customers with bulletproof data protection, VERITAS NetBackup 5.1 software enables low-impact backups and rapid recovery of files, enhances security of backup environments and offers expanded support for Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Exchange and IBM DB2.
VERITAS NetBackup 5.1 software is designed to protect critical data while simplifying the management of backup and recovery. Combining NetApp® instant recovery technology products -- NetApp Snapshot™ capabilities to create a point-in-time image and NetApp SnapRestore® to enable instant single file or entire volume recovery -- VERITAS NetBackup's Advanced Client option delivers advanced data protection for network-attached storage (NAS) environments. As a result, there is no need for data movement over the network, keeping that data local and resulting in the rapid recovery of files. Additionally, the integrated snapshot capability allows for the unique backup of data from a snapshot, creating low-impact, nondisruptive client operations and user access.
“At Juniper, we create a competitive advantage for our customers by providing superior networking and security solutions. The ability to backup and restore our critical data with speed and accuracy is key to our business,” said Vinnie Chhabra, IT Manager at Juniper Networks. “VERITAS’ NetBackup 5.1 solution integrated with Network Appliance's Snapshot and SnapRestore technology provides the ability for low-impact backup and faster recovery of our data without interruption to daily operations.”
VERITAS NetBackup 5.1 innovations include: Unparalleled Security: NetBackup 5.1 provides up to 256-bit encryption functionality, offering IT administrators with maximum security during backup and restore operations with minimal impact to the client. In addition, the new Access Control feature offers organizations the flexibility to restrict or provide specific access levels to NetBackup’s administrative functionality. Expanded Database Support: With the VERITAS NetBackup Advanced Client, snapshot techniques are consolidated and leveraged into one simple offering that helps organizations select the best snapshot backup and recovery method for their specific IT environment. Advanced Client takes it one step further by extending snapshot capabilities to support DB2, SQL and Exchange agents. Intel Itanium Architecture Support: Extending the existing broad range of platform support for heterogeneous environments, VERITAS NetBackup also now supports the Intel® Itanium® 2 processor-based platform for Microsoft Windows and HP-UX operating systems. In addition, NetBackup customers can now fully realize the cost savings associated with Linux in Intel environments with support for Red Hat and SuSe.
Helping ensure that data and applications are always available is integral to the company’s utility computing strategy. VERITAS NetBackup software provides the highest data protection and recovery service levels to meet the stringent IT requirements of today’s enterprise, while helping to drive down costs. VERITAS NetBackup is a key building block in the company’s backup and recovery product portfolio, integrating with VERITAS CommandCentral™ Service software to enable the delivery of backup and recovery as a utility, and with VERITAS Data Lifecycle Manager, providing data archiving, retention and retrieval capabilities to meet regulatory requirements.
“VERITAS strives to help IT organizations protect the critical data that keeps their businesses running smoothly,” said Brenda Zawatski, vice president of product and solutions marketing, VERITAS Software. “The latest release of NetBackup allows us to further provide our customers with the broadest support for their environments while making their IT operations more efficient and productive.”
