IDC's Directions 2009 to Focus on the Opportunities and Challenges of ICT at a Watershed
SYDNEY, 27 April 2009, The ICT industry has reached a watershed moment, brought on by innovation, rapidly changing user behavior and perhaps most importantly, the global economic slowdown. The challenges and opportunities that lie ahead will be explored at IDC's 44th annual Directions conference.
So far, 2009 has been an interesting and turbulent time in ICT. We have heard the NBN announcement, seen the rise of Cloud Computing, the decline in hardware sales and the global financial crisis take its toll on bottom lines and job security.
IDC's Directions on 5th May, which is online for the first time in '09, showcases over 15 IDC analyst presentations exploring these current issues and market trends in ICT.
Hot topics include Cloud Computing, ICT predictions, the Global Financial Crisis, mini-notebooks, PC hardware, datacentre transformation, ICT marketing, wide-format printers, security, SaaS, National Broadband Network, mobility, mobile broadband, WAN optimisation, vertical market opportunities and desktop virtualisation.
While the majority of presentations will include local content by Australian analysts, international highlights include Senior Vice President and Chief Analyst Frank Gens, who will show how the explosion in ''cloud services'' is transforming the enterprise IT marketplace and opening up fresh new opportunities for success today and in the decade ahead.
Also, Nicholas Carr, best-selling author of Does IT Matter? and most recently, The Big Switch: Rewiring the World, from Edison to Google will look at lessons learned from the rise of centralised utilities in the past, the flaws of traditional IT strategies and the new wave of cloud computing services and providers. He will offer practical advice for how to capitalise on the cloud today, how to prepare for greater changes down the road and how to avoid being led astray by the hype.
Each local presentation features IDC analysts offering the latest market intelligence and advice based on IDC's research across hardware, software, services and telecommunications. The Directions agenda is available for viewing at http://www.idc.com.au/events/directions09/agenda/defaultn.asp
