Lenovo's former partner director and enterprise sales manager, Phil Cameron, has been promoted to the A/NZ managing director's post. He replaces Alan Munro, who has relocated to Europe to take up an international role. Cameron has spent the past two years as Lenovo's sales director for its large enterprise, mid-market and public sector education business. Prior to that, he ran the vendor's partner business. Cameron came across to Lenovo following its acquisition of IBM's PC business in May 2005, after joining IBM in 2002. Despite having 20 years' experience in the PC market, including a previous stint with Toshiba, Cameron says he is still enthusiastic about the segment and looked forward to continuing to build on Lenovo's sales and channel plans. "In the last two years Lenovo has grown from the number four PC supplier in that larger enterprise space into what we believe will be second position in the last quarter of 2007, according to IDC," he says. Lenovo recently announced its first push into the retail market, launching the new IdeaPad and IdeaCentre range and signing partnerships with mass merchants, Dick Smith Powerhouse, Dick Smith Electronics and Domayne in Australia. Cameron says it will look to grow its consumer market presence with other partners later this year. The vendor has also launched a workstation series and flagged plans to bring out its own x86-based servers this year. Cameron says both corporate categories opened up new opportunities for business partners. "My plan is to continue the momentum of the business we are currently doing around retail and driving the recruitment of business partners across all of those new areas," he says. Cameron says he is on the lookout for a replacement in the enterprise sales director's position and hoped to make an appointment in April.
