Acquisitive Auckland-based managed services provider Base 2 has sealed another deal, buying small software integrator and developer TJB.
"We've bought another company and have a couple more lined up," was how Base 2 managing director Greg Sharp shared the news.
The TJB buy widens Base 2's services portfolio in answer to customer demand and will also differentiate the MSP from competitors, Sharp told Reseller News.
"We want to be able to supply services, infrastructure, software, APIs, the ability to digitise SMBs," he said. We've been leaving money on the table for some time."
Sharp said Base 2 was more and more being asked for these services as it moved into servicing mid-market organisations with up to around 100 seats.
The challenge many such organisations face is surprisingly similar to that of enterprises - their systems are fragmented and they lack "one source of the truth", Sharp explained.
The easy adoption of various cloud apps was creating blockages in the way information flows between systems.
"They want to make sure information flows seamlessly from one to the other," Sharp said.
With TJB comes six staff and TJB founder Travis Beesley will also join the group.
Beesley said TJB had done a lot of development work with Base 2 over the last couple of years and the companies work well together.
"It's a good opportunity all round," he said.
TJB also delivers development hosting and cloud services across AWS and Azure.
Sharp said future buyouts will likely be more pure-play MSPs than integrators, though he is also hunting in the security space and for smallish ISPs to access their "reasonably untapped" customer bases.
Geography also features, with Base 2 looking to expand into the "golden triangle" of the central plateau, Tauranga and Hamilton and further south.
The acquisitions are funded from cashflow and by a bank loan from BNZ under an agreed formula.
Sharp said all staff are coming with the acquisitions and Base 2 is also hiring as fast as it can.
