Dicker Data has been appointed as the sole distributor of Lenovo Data Centre Group in New Zealand, as the vendor aligns to an exclusive supply chain strategy.

Following a six month review process, the decision - with an intended date effective 1 April - sees the vendor part company with Ingram Micro on the data centre side of the business.

“It’s extremely pleasing to see Lenovo demonstrating their confidence in our New Zealand business with this substantial change in strategy,” said David Dicker, chairman and CEO of Dicker Data.

“Moving to an exclusive distribution agreement will enable us to invest into hiring more resources and to create a unique go to market strategy focused on delivering long-term profitable growth for both organisations.”

The move comes three years after Lenovo appointed Dicker Data as distributor in New Zealand, terminating the vendor’s partnership with Westcon-Comstor as a result.

Reseller News understands that Ingram Micro remains a distributor for Lenovo’s PC business in New Zealand.

“Customers are at the centre of our world, and so rather than a channel-push strategy, we have decided to implement a model focused on the customer whereby Dicker Data will provide Lenovo DCG with an end-to-end go to market,” said Nathan Knight, general manager of Australia and New Zealand at Lenovo DCG.

“We have put both of our distributors through a rigorous process over the last six months and have made the decision to appoint Dicker Data New Zealand.

“Together, we are able to bring an end-to-end market proposition to New Zealand, allowing for the best relationship with partners and end users.”

The move comes three months after Knight was appointed as new general manager across the Data Centre Group in A/NZ.

As reported by sister publication ARN, Knight replaced Rob Makin, who is moving into a global post as executive director and general manager for the vendor’s worldwide device-as-a-service business unit.
