AWS' local channel lead named head of training and certification in A/NZ

Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) head of channels and alliances in Australia and New Zealand, Stefan Jansen, has been named as the cloud services provider’s new head of training and certification in the local A/NZ region.
The move comes after more than four years at the helm of the company’s channel business, first as its partner business development manager for A/NZ and, from early 2015, as head of channels and alliances in A/NZ.
Jansen came to AWS from Microsoft Australia, where he held a number of roles over several years, including the position of head of Dynamics partner sales for just over three years prior to his move to the cloud services provider in 2013.
While Jansen’s new role sees him step away from the leadership of AWS’ A/NZ channel business, it will no doubt see him actively maintain his existing ties with the company’s local channel ecosystem and the partners within it.
In his new job, Jansen will deliver training and certification programs for AWS accreditations for partners and customers – a move made in response to the growing demand for skills in cloud and related technologies, according to a spokesperson for the company.
AWS’ local channel business has bloomed during Jansen’s tenure; in late 2016 Jansen told ARN that the company had certified more partners during the first 10 months of that year than it had during the preceding four years.
That same year – in November 2016 – AWS said it had added over 10,000 partners globally to its ecosystem over the past 12 months, with the channel accounting for two-thirds of the cloud vendor’s network outside of its home country, the US.
As recently as April last year, Jansen was talking up AWS’ continued focus on the local channel landscape, with professional certification, solution and industry competencies, and hybrid IT among the areas in which the company planned to pump its partner investment dollars during 2017 and beyond.
The company said at the time that, in response to an expanding local partner base, it would further bolster competencies within the channel, chiefly around the Internet of Things (IoT), SAP and specific industry verticals.
