Ingram Micro recruits Kiwi channel expertise for senior Lenovo role

Distributor expands reach across core data centre offerings

Ingram Micro has appointed Stewart Williams as senior business development manager for Lenovo in New Zealand, as the distributor expands reach across core data centre offerings.

With more than 20 years of IT industry experience, Williams headed up Distribution Central for more than four years locally, alongside channel roles at IBM, Emerson Network Power, Acer and Hitachi Data Systems.

The appointment also marks a return to Ingram Micro for Williams, who held the position of market development manager between April 2009 and November 2011.

“We're thrilled to have somebody of Stewart's calibre and seniority join our award winning Lenovo DCG team,” Ingram Micro senior general manager Jason Langley said.

“Stewart brings with him invaluable data centre and infrastructure experience, gained through many years in distribution and, in particular, having led Distribution Central through a significant growth phase before leaving in 2016.”

According to Langley, Williams' mix of experience, on both the customer and vendor sides of the industry, ensures he is “ideally positioned” to assist both reseller partners and end user customers to maximise technology investments.

“Stewart's enduring cross-tier channel relationships, combined with his focus on delivering value-based solutions with measurable business outcomes, adds significant additional strength to our highly-regarded Lenovo team, for the benefit of all our channel partners,” Langley added.

Alongside channel expertise, Williams’ industry experience includes technical and pre-sales consulting roles with organisations such as Telecom, Auckland City Council, Fletchers, Vero and Goodman Fielder.

Williams joins the Lenovo team amid a channel shake-up for vendor locally, following a distribution change in December 2016.

As reported exclusively by Reseller News, Lenovo retained Ingram Micro and appointed Dicker Data as distributors in New Zealand, terminating the vendor’s partnership with Westcon-Comstor as a result.

More recently however, the vendor also launched its new data centre partner program for Australia and New Zealand (A/NZ), revealed to Reseller News in April 2017.

The new data centre partner program has been redefined to drive deeper focus on five key business segments: the traditional data centre infrastructure, software-defined data centre, high-performance computing and artificial intelligence, hyper-scale systems and data centre services.

“Lenovo software-defined data centres (SDDC) ‘Think Systems’ and ‘Think Agile’ are a great fit for lines of business that need apps that enhance customer experience and a self-service marketplace environment,” Williams added.

“Ensuring data is highly available, while not compromising security, is the challenge I am looking forward to. Effectively empowering our business partners for the future to ensure success for their customers across the territory.”
