Oracle hires new trans-Tasman channel chief

Oracle has appointed Steve McLoughlin as general manager of alliances and channels, spanning both Australia and New Zealand markets.
Having joined in August, McLoughlin - who replaces Paul-Christian Schlawe in the role - is tasked with building out the vendor’s ecosystem of partners on both sides of the Tasman, as the tech giant continues to drive business through the cloud.
Prior to Oracle, McLoughlin most recently assisted two US-based technology firms with start-up strategies aligned to Asia Pacific launch plans, having previously ran sales and partner roles at Citrix.
Specifically, McLoughlin was director of commercial sales, partner readiness and Microsoft alliance across the region for almost two years, having first joined Citrix to run the sales engagement team in Asia Pacific.
Alongside management roles at Assent Executive and Allied Telesis - including stints at Clemenger, Westpac and Morgan and Banks - McLoughlin also held an A/NZ channel and distributor role for Bay Networks during the late 1990s.
In joining Oracle, McLoughlin follows former Citrix colleague Rob Willis to the vendor, who took over as new regional managing director of A/NZ in November 2016.
The channel appointment comes as the vendor builds out new cloud programs across the market, designed to enable customers to reuse existing on-premises software licenses for Oracle platform-as-a-service (PaaS) through the release of ‘Bring Your Own License to PaaS’ and ‘Universal Credits.’
As reported by ARN, customers with existing on-premises licenses can leverage that investment to use Oracle platform-as-a-service (PaaS) at a fraction of the old PaaS price, in doing so, customers reduce management and operational costs - Oracle PaaS includes Oracle Database, Middleware and Analytics.
The tech giant already allows customers to bring on-premises licenses to its infrastructure as-a-service (IaaS) and this is another step in bringing them into cloud environments, while addressing the cloud adoption challenges they face with their on-premises software investments.
