Fairfax New Zealand Managing Director, Simon Tong, is leaving the company to lead ASB’s drive for technology and payments innovation.
In his new role, Tong will be responsible for technology performance, payments and the development of new solutions, and will become part of ASB's leadership team, reporting to CEO Barbara Chapman.
"As a technologist with a career including more than 18 years of senior management roles in complex, technology-focused organisations, Simon brings a unique combination of skills, industry experience and knowledge to the role," Chapman said.
"He is a strong people-leader with a proven track record of managing large and dynamic organisations and I know he will be a very good fit with the ASB culture."
Effective March 27, Tong replaces Russell Jones who has moved within ASB to become Executive General Manager of Retail Banking.
"I believe that my background provides me with a unique opportunity to contribute to the success of ASB," Tong added.
"As a customer, my family and I have been delighted with the experience the bank provides and I look forward to contributing to innovative and superior experiences for our customers."
Tong leaves as Fairfax and erstwhile rival NZME await a ruling from the Commerce Commission on their proposed merger.
Fairfax New Zealand COO, Andrew Boyle, will act as Managing Director in New Zealand.
Tong joined Fairfax in 2013 from national payments processor Paymark.
