​Cisco offers aid to NZ businesses impacted by earthquake

Tech giant offers collaboration tools to impacted Kiwi organisations.

Cisco has unveiled plans to provide New Zealand businesses that are temporarily without offices due to the earthquake free access to collaboration meeting rooms.

Following last week’s 7.8 earthquake - which has devastated large parts of the South and North Island - the tech giant has made the pledge to displaced organisations until new office locations can be found.

“Many New Zealand businesses have been affected by last week's natural disaster,” Cisco New Zealand managing director, Dave Wilson, said.

“Cisco New Zealand wants to help these businesses get back on their feet by connecting them with their staff and customers, ensuring that they can collaborate and function no matter where they are located.”

Wilson said collaboration meeting rooms include unlimited video, voice and web conferencing.

“These technologies allow companies to conduct business from any device and location that has internet and phone access,” he explained.

Cisco’s pledge follows a period of chaos for the New Zealand industry, with Ingram Micro postponing its Christchurch Showcase event in light of the earthquakes and flooding currently impacting the country.

As reported by Reseller News - and in an open letter to reseller partners - Ingram Micro New Zealand managing director, Gary Bigwood, said that a trade event was the "last thing on anybody’s mind right now" and that the safety of people took priority over any other consideration.
