Pure Storage poaches EMC CMO as storage brand build continues

Independent solid-state array vendor Pure Storage has raided industry rival EMC, announcing that Jonathan Martin will join the company as Chief Marketing Officer (CMO).
Leveraging the experience from EMC, HP and Salesforce.com, Martin aims to utilise his global enterprise experience to lead and execute Pure Storage’s worldwide marketing strategy as the company scales through its next phase of natural growth.
Martin joins Pure Storage from EMC where he spent the last four years, most recently as CMO while prior to that, he spent five years at HP Software in a variety of roles, including CMO.
Terms of the deal will see Martin report directly to Pure Storage President, David Hatfield.
“While we remain laser focused on building the next great storage company, it is critical that we up level our brand and broaden our awareness worldwide in order to capitalise on the market opportunity we have in front of us today,” Hatfield says.
“Jonathan’s vision, values and expertise complement our current team well and together, they will help propel us forward as Pure Storage reshapes the future of the enterprise data storage market.”
Martin will be based in Mountain View and his first day at Pure Storage will be in July.
