Nextgen Distribution launches Kiwi operations

Australian distributor, Nextgen Distribution, has opened new offices in Auckland and Wellington, and appointed an NZ MD.
Newly appointed MD of the NZ operations, Terry Dunn, said the company will bring along with it all existing relationships with its vendors, including Oracle, Arista Networks, Violin Memory, Nominum, Objectivity and ZTE.
“We are not exactly starting from zero. We have been doing some work in the New Zealand market through Australia. But our operations here will certainly take it to the next level of growth," he said.
Dunn takes a ‘significant’ stake in the new venture. Nextgen Distribution in New Zealand intends to run independently as a local business.
Dunn has worked in the New Zealand IT VAR market for several years and was the founder of VAD which was acquired by Ingram Micro in 2009.
“We already have partners in the market, but our intention is to expand on that. We want to reach as many partners as possible and we are open to working with anyone that wants to work with us," Dunn said.
“There will be four of us between now and Christmas. That time will mostly involve settling in, covering the bases, talking to resellers and partners and getting plans in place for the next calendar year."
Australian channel luminary, John Walters, heads Nextgen Distribution in Australia, and remains majority partner in the long planned New Zealand operation.
“I have a strong affiliation and respect for New Zealand and the opportunity, so it was always part of our growth plans. However, due to that respect, I was always nervous about just appointing a business development manager and managing that role from Australia,” Walters said.
“I welcome Terry and the other members to the Nextgen Distribution Group and look forward to representing our vendors with increased focus and reach.”
Nextgen NZ will boast two staff in Parnell, Auckland working sales and sales support roles, and one in Wellington pushing for Government contracts. Two staff members have been hired already, and another is in discussions.
Speaking to Reseller News NZ Patricia Nance, VP of alliances and channels for Oracle ANZ said, “We are excited about NextGen’s entry into the New Zealand. They will become our second value-added distributor (VAD) for the country along with AVNET. Both these distributors are slightly different from each other, but both of them are equally capable. NextGen has our endorsement and support in their start of operations in the New Zealand market.”
