Capital Technology bounces back

Capital Technology Distributors is not taking a backseat to other Brightmail distributors as it has signed up another exclusive agency.
The company was the original exclusive distributor of the antispam software into the New Zealand market until Symantec acquired the brand earlier this year.
After a lengthy regional review of its distribution model, Symantec last month awarded distribution rights for Brightmail to Express Data and Tech Pacific, which also stock its security software, and relegated Capital Technology to value-added reseller status.
Darin McKay, CEO of Capital Technology, says while the company was “naturally disappointed” about its exclusive distribution rights being changed, it has retained a “very satisfactory” ongoing relationship with Symantec, which allows it to continue promoting Brightmail.
McKay adds that Capital Technology continues to deal with other resellers and remains one of the most active representatives of the brand in the country. However, the company has added another emerging brand to its portfolio, which is already generating interest.
It has secured the exclusive New Zealand agency for RTO Software, the makers of T-Scale, a performance enhancement and application-shaping suite for thin client environments, which is one of Capital Technology’s areas of focus.
“We already work in that space with ThinPrint and are always looking to complement that market,” says McKay.
Since T-Scale is globally certified for Citrix Metaframe and Microsoft Terminal Services, it slots perfectly into Capital’s portfolio, he adds.
"This product represents good incremental business opportunities for resellers to Citrix and Microsoft Terminal Services customers," he says.
“Citrix is incorporating T-Scale into the next release of Metaframe, which is a huge endorsement.”
The benefit of the T-Scale system, according to McKay, is that customers can typically achieve a 40% to 60% increase in the number of users connected to existing server farms, without the need to invest in additional hardware.
McKay states initial interest in the product in New Zealand is high, with some customers already piloting the software through partners.
T-Scale suits larger resellers that supply Metaframe and Terminal Services, he says.
Meanwhile, the profile of Brightmail has increased since Symantec’s acquisition, says McKay.
“Increased marketing by Symantec has driven awareness of the brand up a lot,” he says.
Wins at large enterprises such as Wellington Polytechnic and TVNZ have also boosted the brand, with a number of large contracts with major public and corporate organisations being finalised.
