Canon brings Christmas goodies

CHRISTMAS has already arrived for Canon dealers with the launch of two new digital cameras and two compact photo printers this month.
The company has released two models in its ultra-compact Digital IXUS range: the 4 megapixel Digital IXUS 40, and the 3.2 me-gapixel Digital IXUS 30, as well as the CP400 and CP500 portable photo printers.
The range of features in the new IXUS cameras includes a large 2-inch LCD screen and a 3x optical zoom lens incorporating Canon’s ultra-high refractive aspherical (UA) lens technology.
In addition to still photography, the cameras can also record movie footage at 60 frames per second.
The cameras are equipped with DiG!C II image processors, which Canon says makes for fast start-up and autofocus, and smooth shooting and reviewing of photos and movies.
The cameras are Direct Print and PictBridge compatible, which means they can be bundled with the new CP400 and CP500 printers to enable users to print directly from the camera without a PC.
The printers feature a compact and lightweight design, which makes them fully portable.
Canon says they deliver quality prints at high resolution through the use of a dye-sublimation thermal print-through process, while their four-layer print process includes a durable clear UV protective coating to prevent fading and colour change over the life of the print.
Both models can print in a variety of sizes, from passport-size photos up to 200 x 100mm-wide format paper.
The recommended retail price for the Digital IXUS 30 is $699 and $799 for the Digital IXUS 40. The CP400 and CP500 printers will retail at $349 and $399 respectively.
