Keeping data confidential with confidence

ACCIDENTAL information disclosure can have devastating consequences for a company, but document integrity software specialist Workshare believes its product can prevent that happening.
Andrew Pearson, Workshare general manager Asia-Pacific, describes his product suite as being the safety net for human error.
“All sorts of confidential data is being accidentally disclosed due to human error. Workshare products ensure the right document leaves the organisation and at the moment very few businesses have that ability,” he says.
Human error aside, Pearson says the recipient of a Word document only has to use Microsoft’s track changes function to see the original metadata.
One high-profile example of this was the dodgy dossier embarrassment for Tony Blair’s government.
While Workshare has been selling into the region for the last three years, it only established a Sydney office last year, bringing on Sandeep Joshi as channel sales manager.
Pearson admits that his company hasn’t focused on New Zealand but hopes to change that in the next few months.
“We’ve been concentrating on building the VAR business in Australia and that is now at the stage it can be managed. Some of those partners have sold to customers in New Zealand, but that’s only going to get us so far.”
He says that while Workshare products are suitable across the market, the reality is that the greatest uptake is from businesses where documents have a high value — such as the financial and law sectors.
“Workshare is looking for a range of partners — from application-based VARs to system integrators — who will gain a significant advantage in being able to offer these products.”
