Nerds on call nationwide

Memorably named Need A Nerd, a Hawke’s Bay-based support company, plans to take its services nationwide.
General manager Adam Dunkerley says the success the company had in its native Hawke’s Bay, with over 1,000 customers, provided the base for a move into Tauranga. Now there are plans to further expand into other regions and main centres around the country.
“The company started out in Hawke’s Bay about two years ago, where I started it as a bit of a side business. About four months ago I had to commit fully to the company because of the extensive growth we’ve had. We hope to replicate that success first in Tauranga, and then in the rest of the country. I’ve brought in a great team and we might have to hire more.”
Need A Nerd is signed as a reseller for Vodafone and Slingshot, with the opportunity to resell high-end voice plans, phones and internet capabilities. The company is also talking to a major IT retailer in the Tauranga area.
According to Dunkerley, Need A Nerd stands out from other service providers because of its down-to-earth approach to tech solutions.
“We want to have a bit of fun in what we do. I think many people are too afraid sometimes to call in with simple questions, and I think some traditional service providers are a little bit anal about how they handle things. We’ll deal with anyone’s problem, be it a cable that is unplugged in the back of your machine, to more serious problems. And we’ll have some fun doing it.”
Need A Nerd’s client base is currently around 75% residential and 25% corporate, with both markets growing.
