Palm hooks up with telecos

Palm has signed deals with Vodafone and Telecom in New Zealand to carry its range of smart phones.
Vodafone has taken on the Treo 750W, while Telecom looks set to carry the Treo 700WX.
Gavin Maxwell, technical account manager at Palm Australia, says it made more business sense to supply the smart phones through the carriers here.
“It made more sense for us to let our carriers supply these smart phones. Renaissance will still supply and look after our handheld and accessories' market.”
Maxwell says despite letting Vodafone and Telecom carry the smart phone range, Palm is not looking to replace Renaissance.
“There is still a good market in hand-helds and accessories.”
Michael Zhou, imagery manager and RMA officer at Renaissance, says the company will not supply smart phones for Palm in New Zealand.
“Even though we will not supply these products, we will still provide the training surrounding it. We will continue to carry Palm products in New Zealand.”
