After a short stint at accessory vendor Laser, during which he set up the company’s local operation, Sim Bong has return to his true passion – security.
As country manager Bong established Laser in New Zealand last June but has now been appointed sales manager at security software distributor Chillisoft, which is the New Zealand agent for NOD32 and Death to Spam.
The move was based on a personal passion for security, says Bong.
“Laser was a great experience for me, but it was not really my passion. It had been an agreement between me and Laser that I would help the business get up and running in New Zealand.”
Laser Australia general manager Janto Lim says Bong helped Laser succeed in the local market.
“Sim has done a very good job in his role here, and he left to pursue his own passion. Our New Zealand business has gone very well. We have grown one level at a time and we are looking to achieve the goals we set.”
According to Lim, former Laser business development manager Shrikant Rao has stepped into the role as interim country manager.
Bong says he knew Chillisoft director, Geoff Cossey before joining the company.
“I’ve known Geoff in the past, so I looked at this opportunity and I really like his business model.”
Before becoming Laser country manager, Bong was New Zealand SME manager at Trend Micro, and was previously business development manager for Sonicwall at Renaissance.
