Six-month countdown for AVG office

The battle of smaller security software players against giant rivals is set to heat up from September when another up and coming brand, Grisoft AVG, gets a local presence.
The brand’s sole distributor for Australia and New Zealand, Sydney-based Avalanche Technology Group, has revealed plans to open an office here this year, touting September as the most likely date.
The New Zealand office is likely to be headed by Avalanche channel manager, Tim Dawson.
Avalanche managing director Peter Cameron says the company has been overwhelmed with enquiries from local resellers keen to take up the AVG product.
Having a direct presence here will enable the company to better support these resellers, he says.
“One of the things we know we do well is the way we support our resellers. To do this properly in New Zealand, we have to be based there.”
Avalanche has signed up 900 resellers for AVG in Australia and New Zealand since its recruitment began nine months ago and continues to add around 20 each week, Cameron says.
He expects a surge in interest in the brand following this month’s launch of the Small Business Server Edition of AVG Internet Security and AVG Anti-Malware.
“The suite includes a free licence for the server and is very competitively priced,” he says.
