Butchers promoted to run Lenovo

Butchers was promoted to the position from director of transactional sales in Asia Pacific and remains based in Wellington. He replaces Karen Brace who left in early April without revealing any future career plans. She took on the role after Lenovo’s acquisition of IBM’s PC division in 2004.
Butchers says his broad knowledge of the business helped secure the role. “It was my understanding of both aspects of the business. Lenovo runs a dual model focused on relational and transactional business and I have experience in both of those, as well as a good understanding of the New Zealand market.”
His Lenovo career has taken him to “all points of the globe”, Butchers says. Although based in Wellington, as transactional sales director his team was mainly based in Singapore and Malaysia.
He gained experience in the New Zealand channel on joining HP in the late 1980s as a dealer account manager, and then moved to Telecom as a national channel manager in the early 1990s. In 1995, he joined IBM as notebook products and marketing manager.
“I’m really excited about the opportunity of being again involved in the New Zealand PC business,” he says.
