Verbatim Archival Grade DVD-Rs

Archiving media has been a challenge since the first CD-ROM saw daylight in 1985. Optical media has had a relatively short archival lifespan, and some have dubbed them unusable as corporate storage.

Verbatim has recently introduced a new archival grade DVD-R, using proprietary, dual-reflective layers to maximise compatibility and longevity. The dual-reflective technology is comprised of a silver layer for broad compatibility and a gold layer for long archival life.

The gold reflective layer, naturally resistant to corrosion, prevents oxygen from coming through the DVD bonding material and corroding the silver reflective layer. Silver oxidation can be a primary factor that limits the lifetime of DVD media. The company says the media shows significant improvements over conventional disks in terms of longevity and compatibility. The discs also feature a scratch guard to protect against, err… scratches.
