Global heavyweights combine on localised ERP

SAP and IBM are joining forces to target small and medium businesses with ERP offerings.

SAP All-In-One aims to quickly deploy ERP and is tailored to particular industry requirements. The offering provides for requirements specific to business in New Zealand, such as GST and the Holidays Act, along with payroll management. IBM will market it under its Express Solutions brand name and will also offer software, hardware and support as part of the programme.

New Zealand is the fifth country in Asia Pacific to roll out IBM Express Solutions for SAP All-In-One after it was first launched in the US. Wholesale distributors are the first to be targeted here.

Locally-based associate consulting partner Andrew Tubb says it made sense to focus on the wholesale distribution sector to get the scheme up and running.

“We worked with Australian colleagues to see where we were likely to get the most bang for our buck,” Tubb says. “For widest penetration and depth, wholesale distribution was an obvious one. Also, we think these organisations have a potential need for these solutions.”

Tubb says the partnership will help IBM grow in the small and medium space.

“We’ve focused on solutions, hardware and software for small and medium size clients in the past but not in such a formal or targeted way as we are now.”

He says the agreement will give SAP All-In-One clients a one-stop-shop with the additional offerings from IBM.

SAP managing director Ian Black says the deal provides small and medium businesses with a safe choice, because IBM and SAP are arguably the two largest players in their fields.

“The ERP solutions are at a competitive price point and are backed by strong global players to make sure it’s a low-risk decision.”

Black says SAP has been successful in building the base of ERP customers through similar reseller agreements over the past three to four years.
