September start in pipeline for Server 2008 training

Partner readiness programmes for Microsoft’s new server tools could start by September.

According to Melanie Hobcraft general manager of training provider Auldhouse, Microsoft has developed the first wave of training content for Windows Server 2008, which will launch on February 27, 2008.

Auldhouse was given an opportunity to preview training content for the product at Microsoft’s Worldwide Partner Conference earlier this month.

It aims to start offering training for local partners around September, says Hobcraft.

“We already have good quality content developed by [Microsoft] that we can incorporate into partner-readiness programmes.

“We are in discussions with Microsoft here in how we would go to market with a programme for partners.”

Having access to training materials developed by Microsoft at corporate level already is of great benefit to Auldhouse, she says.

“We have to know more about new products sooner than anyone else in the market, because we are the ones standing in front of partners getting them ready for new technologies.”

Training around Windows Server 2008 and other new Microsoft technologies will be a big focus for Auldhouse this year, says Hobcraft.

“The next 12 to 18 months will probably see the biggest wave of new technology we have ever seen.”

Auldhouse expects good uptake for the partner-readiness programme around these products as local companies have been early-adopters of new technology.

“Because New Zealand is small, customers and partners are really good about being early-adopters. Training partners from September or October is a nice lead time into people being early adopters of the technology.”

Certification will also be a big driver for Microsoft and Auldhouse this year, especially at Microsoft’s Tech Ed technology showcase in August, says Hobcraft.

“Microsoft has announced a new certification framework that encompasses architecture, professional and technical certifications. These are very specialised and focus on skill sets in different technical areas.”
