Bassi passes baton to Dalton

After nearly five years in the job, during which he took Acer from a relatively small player to New Zealand’s number-two PC vendor, Rod Bassi is leaving his post as country manager.
Taking over these duties is current commercial channel manager Mark Dalton.
Bassi is returning to his native Australia, where he will become general manager of Acer’s consumer division from October 1.
Dalton will be the vendor’s fifth country manager, but the first New Zealander in the role. Bassi says he is pleased to be able to hand over the reins to someone from within Acer’s local ranks.
“It is a testament to the success we had in New Zealand that we can elevate one of our own to this role.”
Dalton has been with Acer for three years and is excited to tackle his new challenge.
“This is an exciting time in my career. My focus will be to cement Acer’s number two position and to continue the great work Rod has done.”
Bassi has been with Acer for 10 years and is looking forward to a new challenge. “The division I will look after is three times bigger than the New Zealand business and I have the job to grow that.”
But, Bassi says he will miss this country, particularly the way New Zealanders do business. “It is different than Australia. It is not until you integrate yourself fully that you appreciate the nuances and subtle differences.”
Bassi reckons there is still plenty of opportunity for Acer to grow here, especially as HP is such a dominant force. “New Zealand is a very savvy market and won’t allow HP to continue to be such a dominant player. The market will see us as the obvious alternative choice.”
