Avalanche splits to meet AVG demand

AVG anti-virus distributor Avalanche Technology Group has formed a separate trans-Tasman company to cater for growing demand for the security product.
The Victorian-based company established AVG (AU/NZ) to focus on AVG’s range, but will continue to run Avalanche to support the Fineprint and PDF Factory agencies and other brands currently being negotiated.
“We’ve found the product [AVG] has grown so fanatically that we answer the phone at Avalanche and people say ‘is that AVG?’,” says business development director Peter Cameron.
Cameron says the new company has split off from Avalanche, but AVG internationally has been involved in the process and is happy to have the dedicated organisation. He says most staff from Avalanche, including those in technical and sales roles, will move to AVG (AU/NZ).
Meanwhile, AVG has delayed the opening of a New Zealand office planned for September, but is in the process of recruiting a representative to work from their own office here.
Cameron says it is talking to a New Zealander who will be available soon, with the company’s office expected to open early in the new year. A Perth office was set up first and he says it will be used as a model for the office here.
