Fortinet enlists Ingram, sheds MPA

Security vendor Fortinet has shed one of its New Zealand distributors – MPA - following the appointment of new distributor Ingram Micro.
Australia/New Zealand regional director Charlie Cote described Ingram as a powerhouse in New Zealand, and said it would help Fortinet break into the small and medium enterprise space as well as other companies.
“They deal with anyone from a 5-10 person company all the way to those with thousands across the country.”
Fortinet’s other New Zealand distributor Distribution Central has been retained.
MPA managing director Steve Macmillan confirmed it would no longer represent the Fortinet agency.
Macmillan says the appointment of Ingram could be an extension of Fortinet’s global moves to work with the distributor overseas. Ingram Micro distributes Fortinet in the US and other countries.
Macmillan says he doesn’t believe the agency warrants three local distributors.
Distribution Central marketing director Nick Verykios says Fortinet told his company it was making some changes but it would be unaffected by them.
Fortinet says it wants to add another 30 resellers to its FortiPartner programme in Australia and New Zealand by the end of the year. The programme already has 70 members.
Ingram Micro solutions group manager Scott Cowen says it has identified unified threat management solutions as a growth opportunity. “Fortinet is the leader in the UTM space, with a wide range of products well suited to New Zealand businesses,” he says.
