Parallel Imported Limited has been fined $15,000 for breaching the Fair Trading Act after pleading guilty in the Auckland District Court late last week.
A Commerce Commission investigation found that between April 2005 and November 2006, customers who enquired in stores and on the phone were quoted higher prices for the same goods promoted in newspaper advertisements and on Parallel Imported’s website.
The goods included car audio equipment, cameras and perfume.
Reseller News was unable to contact Parallel Imported for comment prior to deadline.
Commerce Commission chair Paula Rebstock says the onus is on businesses to ensure their products are available at the advertised prices.
“Businesses must ensure that they have effective systems in place so that price representations are consistent across all channels, including websites, print advertising, in-store advertising and oral representations,” she says.
The Commission had previously warned Parallel Imported about inaccurate pricing.
