Proof of excellence for SSI with IBM award

Entering industry events such as the IBM Partner Awards is a good test for a company says Systems, Software & Instrumentation (SSI) sales and marketing manager Kerry Glynn.
SSI won the Best Non-IBM Reseller Solution award last year for its collaboration with British wool supplier H Dawson. [The award has been renamed Best Non-IBM Business Partner Solution for 2008.]
The Christchurch-based software development company customised its Global Trader System using a Jade system and implemented it using IBM xSeries servers to make real-time business information available to H Dawson.
Glynn says the awards are about recognition and reward for the people involved in the project.
“It’s also a good way to see how you measure up against the industry and gain a broader awareness of other companies. A number of people who read about it in Reseller News and other publications contacted us with feedback.”
He says that the company is redesigning its website and will put the logo and award details on the home page.
The company had no expectations that it would win, says Glynn.
“It’s always hard to tell. We thought we had a good chance with the solution that we put forward for the award. The system has been developed further since the awards and the customer [H Dawson] is very happy with it.”
SSI has also had further success with its GlobalBake software system, used in food manufacturers’ processes. New resellers have been appointed in Dubai and Australia.
And SSI would consider entering the awards again. “Next year and beyond we would look at taking part. All the reasons we entered made it worthwhile and if you have a good story to tell then it’s worth entering,” says Glynn.
The company has been operating since 1981 and was made a Jade partner in 1998. “We offer 20 Jade applications to 450 customers in eight countries. This gives us a good spread of customers and we are able to service them via the internet. We’ve installed solutions for people in countries where we have never been to,” Glynn adds.
The company has customers in industries such as food manufacturing, forestry, agriculture and retail.
Entries are now open for the 2008 IBM Business Partner Awards that are held in association with New Zealand Reseller News. Four new categories have been introduced this year: Best Energy-Efficient Solution, Rookie of the Year, Best Co-Marketing Campaign and People’s Choice Reseller Award.
The awards ceremony will be held on Thursday, November 6.
