Kiwi software firm aims to break US market

Aptimize has launched its Runtime Page Optimizer (RPO) software in the United States, following what it describes as strong local uptake.
The company claims its web page optimisation software is a world first, automatically performing optimisation processes that previously would have been done through manual development. It also addresses a problem affecting owners of websites worldwide: customer impatience.
Aptimize CEO Ed Robinson says customer impatience due to slow web page loading times is costing United States companies more than US$1 billion per year. “Without performance optimisation, web page load times increase as the distance from the server increases. So a business which hosts its website on a server on the East Coast of the United States may be providing West Coast and international customers a reduced experience of their website without even knowing it,” says Robinson.
Recent research by Jupiter Research into web browsing habits suggests web pages that take more than four seconds to load experience a 33 percent drop-off rate with broadband users.
“This is significant for businesses that use their websites as their primary sales tool. It also points to an increased level of impatience by web customers – they’re less willing to wait around for web pages to load,” says Robinson.
The RPO software introduces a new process, file-packing, to web page optimisation. File-packing reduces the number of files that make up a webpage by packing them into like components.
Aptimize has also received New Zealand Trade and Enterprise funding and is close to signing licensing and distributorship deals with a number of Fortune 500 companies.
