Netgear dangles UTM carrot to resellers

Netgear is hunting local resellers to sell its ProSecure unified threat management (UTM) units.
The vendor wants security resellers, and resellers working with small and medium business customers who want to upgrade their VPN and firewall offerings.
It has a number of incentives planned such as free training, and providing 10 UTM units with a one year free subscription for resellers to install with customers.
The UTM appliances include virtual private network (VPN), firewall, routing, web and email security.
Netgear ANZ managing director Ryan Parker says the promotion is an opportunity for resellers to get small businesses, from 5 to 30 users, to trial the ProSecure UTM.
“Even though the box is being given away the reseller will still need to install the UTM. They can sell services around the first installation thereby building the first steps in the relationship with the customer.”
Parker adds that the potential for UTM appliances in the SMB market is massive.
“Viruses, malware, email phishing attacks, spam- these are all threats that small businesses have to combat daily, just like their enterprise counterparts but many SMBs are still only using a firewall and VPN.”
