Ability sets sights on offshore business

Ability Software director Ross Mitchell aims to grow the company’s business in Australia, the US and UK, now that he is focusing solely on the firm and its Ability-Suite software.

He also previously worked with partner company Convergence, established as a separate entity in 2003.

Ability has had success in Australia since entering that market a couple of years ago and Mitchell says his short-term plan is to increase efforts there.

“There’s limited marketing in New Zealand so we want to grow offshore. Australia is quite easy [to enter] but to go any further you have to have a well-rounded product.”

Ability Software has been running marketing campaigns in Australia in conjunction with IBM, and following resulting leads, says Mitchell.

In addition, he has also been “brainstorming options” for developing the business in the US (where it has already established a serviced office) and in the UK.

“We’re looking at ways we can address the US market with a small budget and not a lot of resources there,” he says.

Ability now has control of the intellectual property around AbilitySuite, but will continue its strong relationship with Convergence to provide local service and support for the software.

He is assessing new premises in Auckland’s CBD and has another site available in Albany.
