Lenovo weighs local team structure

Lenovo is considering the make-up of its New Zealand-based team after the resignation of reseller account executive James Arnold.

However, ANZ channel director Callum Eade says it intends to keep local staff numbers at four, while the nature of the role filled by Arnold’s replacement will depend on the successful candidate’s expertise.

“Given all of the changes, and when you don’t have that big of a team, it’s an opportunity to look at your structure and what your coverage looks like. The shape of that. I’m looking to determine,” he says.

Currently the New Zealand team includes Yolanda Chudleigh, who joined last May to take responsibility for most of the vendor’s local tier one accounts, previously managed by former country manager Dean Butchers. The vendor also has one account executive in Auckland, Luke McGoldrick and one in Wellington, Nick Hall, whose roles are divided between channel and the focus of end users.

“It’s a good team with some good stability at the moment,” Eade says.

Arnold has returned to Dell, where he worked from 1997 until 2002, to become country channel manager. In the seven years after 2002 he was with Lenovo and IBM in Australia, Taiwan and New Zealand.

His departure from Lenovo was preceded by that of local distribution manager Pip Heath.

However she has now rejoined her former colleague Eade at the company by becoming Lenovo’s ANZ channel sales manager based in Sydney, looking after the tier two and distribution channels.

Eade says he was keen to have Heath at Lenovo. “Pip and I have a long history, I think she’s a huge ally for us.”

As well as Lenovo, the pair worked together at Toshiba from 2004 until 2009.

Eade will also have another Sydney-based sales manager reporting to him.

There has been more support for New Zealand channel staff since a support team based in Kuala Lumpur was relocated to Sydney about six months ago. This team has now been strengthened to about 12 people, says Eade.

Lenovo is also working closely with Ingram Micro to ensure it fully covers the local market and identifies key partners to work with, he adds.
