Express Data goes Platinum with Oracle

Distributor Express Data has joined the Oracle Partner Network (OPN) at Platinum level, the highest available.
Express Data previously distributed for Sun Microsystems in New Zealand, which is now part of Oracle.
The other OPN levels are Remarketer, where partners can capitalise on opportunities without making a commitment to the vendor; Silver, where partners can engage directly with Oracle; and Gold, where they can explore the whole product portfolio, use enablement tools and gain specialisations, according to the Oracle website.The programme has more than 40 specialisations in which partners can achieve.
“We have actively set out to get [Platinum status],” says sales and marketing manager Paul Plester. “Oracle has given us access to all the knowledge bases and the ability to sell all the Oracle products, including the legacy Sun and Oracle products.”
Plester says Express Data is the first locally, and among the first globally, to move from the Sun channel to Oracle’s programme. It is working closely with Express Data in Australia and expects the operation there to achieve the same level soon, he says.
“Oracle is pleased that Express Data has achieved OPN’s highest level of membership, Platinum,” says the vendor’s ANZ senior director of alliances and channels, Paul Muller. “Express Data’s broad reach across the Australia and New Zealand markets and extensive expertise in software and hardware distribution, makes it an ideal partner for the New Zealand market.”
Express Data has also been talking with the local Sun channel to help companies transition to the Oracle Partner Network, says Plester, adding active local Sun partners have already begun the transition process, while others are bringing indirect sales opportunities to Oracle.
He says Express Data wants to make Oracle’s Exadata database engine part of its Sun Solutions Centre at its Auckland headquarters.
“We’re working hard to be the Oracle partner of choice. They’ve been very open and up front with us and said that anyone who adds value to the sales process has a place in the Oracle partnership.”
In early May, Oracle held a webcast for value added distributors globally that are making the transition to the Partner Network. It has focused on transitioning distributors first, then will move to transition channel partners, says Plester.
Oracle completed its acquisition of Sun Microsystems in January, with an official legal entity between the two companies formed in March.
It has subsequently announced a raft of specialisations for Sun technology, encompassing storage and server platforms, and for Oracle application platforms.
Gold and platinum-level partners are eligible to participate in the specialisation programme.
