CA weighs local team additions

CA Technologies is considering adding to its Wellington-based headcount, after seeing growth opportunities resulting from recent cloud-focused acquisitions.

When asked if local team expansion was planned, account manager Cory Grant said it was a case of “watch this space”.

“There could be something on the horizon. From the latest acquisition strategy and the technology we have brought on, we have got good discussions going with those [among] existing customers. We hope to see some changes in staff.”

The company’s recent global acquisitions include that of 3Tera in February, a start-up that provides software and an interface to prepare and deploy cloud applications. In January it picked up service level management provider Oblicore and in March it acquired Nimsoft, which offers IT performance and availability monitoring for enterprises and managed service providers.

To focus on the cloud, the vendor recently sold its information governance software business to Autonomy, a company that specialises in enterprise search and content management tools.

Grant and five or six key CA New Zealand partners were set to attend the vendor’s trans-Tasman Expo in Sydney and Melbourne earlier this week.

The company will make a “huge push” around its cloud strategy at the event, Grant says. It will also showcase project portfolio management capabilities and its mainframe business, for which speakers from CA Technologies in the US will be present.

In Australia CA has altered its structure, cutting 13 sales positions and creating five roles for divisional heads.

Australian managing director Brenton Smith told Australian Reseller News the 10 sales people hired in place of those cut had skills in selling to managed service providers rather than directly to customers.
