Canterbury DHB plans switching upgrade

The Canterbury District Health Board seeks suppliers to upgrade or replace its IP LAN switching infrastructure.

In request for proposal documents, the DHB says the infrastructure is supporting a diverse range of clinical data repositories, reporting systems, diagnostic systems and communications to many devices across a range of sites.

It also has increasing demand for multimedia applications, faster retrieval of stored data and larger files and a growing volume of patient data.

The DHB says the opportunity to reduce wide area network costs using dark fibre for some sites has contributed to a review of switching infrastructure, and the proposal includes supply of devices at sites where dark fibre will be used.

The DHB also wants to be IPv6 ready and compliant.

The closing date for proposals is 14 October.
