Dell launches Certified Partner tier in NZ

Dell has introduced the Certified Partner level of its global Partner Direct channel programme locally, with Business Technology Group securing the first complete certification.

The second level, Registered, now has more than 100 partners signed through distributor Simms International.

Dell's country channel manager James Arnold says his company initially sent five partners on a training course in Australia to become certified.

Other than BTG, Auckland's Network Service Providers and Palmerston North's Advantage Computers are among the other four in the process of undergoing certification. Two technical staff and two sales staff from the reseller company complete the training in server and storage technology.

Arnold says Dell won't appoint a large number of certified partners locally.

"I don't expect every partner will be certified," he says. "We're focusing on a limited number of partners."

Dell introduced the Certified Partner level after buying Equallogic in 2007 and subsequently extended the tier beyond Equallogic's storage technology.

Arnold says there are 55,000 partners globally for Dell and of these 2,300 are Certified partners. In Australia there are between 10 and 20 who have become certified.
