Ingram Micro restructures staff

Ingram Micro is shedding staff in New Zealand as part of an ongoing restructuring. Various sources tell Reseller News that Ingram Micro have notified staff of 15 redundancies to take effect next week. At least two Wellington staff have been made redundant with the rest being split between sales and support staff in Auckland, according to the sources. Managing director Gary Bigwood told Reseller News through a spokesman that company policy prevents it from revealing staff levels. But while rumours continue to stir, Ingram would only confirm a small number of redundancies. This includes the national sales manager role held by Ingram veteran Craig McEwan, who worked his last day for the distributor on Friday. With McEwan gone, solutions general manager Stuart Alexander now heads up overall sales, as Ingram effectively consolidates its solutions and commercial divisions. Bigwood says Sandy Pearson is taking responsibility for inside sales, and the company is in talks with now former inside sales lead Anne Gage-Reihana over "other potential opportunities". Ingram is also in discussions with business development manager Edward Low and business manager Craig Betteridge, both rumoured to have left the company already. A source who did not wish to be named, told Reseller News the staff changes were fiscal and a means of bringing in new blood.
“They’ve got rid of the old guard that’s been there for donkey’s years," the source says. "But at the sales level, it’s purely fiscal.”
The company has already off shored some operations to the Philippines. Bigwood describes the moves as adaptive. “As a company, we have to be responsive to changing market conditions," he says. "Whilst we regret that a few long-standing members of the team are departing, we remain resolute in ensuring we remain nimble in our approach to best serve the needs of our customers” The staff restructuring is not companion to other changes in business, the spokesman says, with no changes to the vendor portfolio, and no impact on how resellers deal with the distributor.
