Microsoft awards: Axon scoops four, Auldhouse gets “threepeat”

Axon has continued its winning ways at the local Microsoft Partner Awards with four wins to build on the two it has won in each of the past two ceremonies.
This year the integrator took the Business Productivity Unified Communications Solution of the Year; Deployment Partner of the Year; the Partnering Award of the Year with Enlighten Designs (a repeat of last year); and the Solutions Star of the Year for staff member Geoff Clow.
Auldhouse, meanwhile, achieved the Learning Solutions Partner prize as it has done in each of the local events held.
Dick Smith Electronics was the first retailer to feature in the finalist list, and took the Reseller of the Year award from among other finalists Gen-i and Lexel Systems.
Partner group director Brent Colbert says Microsoft and its partner advisory council decided not to provide a supreme award this year, because the winner would be difficult to judge from among an extended number of categories (which this year totalled 17).
"That was one of the awards [the council] felt, given the number of categories, [which] will probably grow next year, it makes it hard to judge and it can be subjective."
Colbert says judges were encouraged by the quality and innovation of the winning submissions this year, as well as the return partners will bring to customers as a result of their projects.
“We are extremely proud of all of this year’s winners and we would like to congratulate them on their success,” he says.
Gen-i secured seven finalist placings this year, and won two awards including Licensing Star of the Year for staff member Jo Meban, and the Business Productivity Portals and Collaboration Solution of the Year (jointly with IGA Systems).
Datacom also won two awards: the Services Ready Partner of the Year and was a joint winner in the Application Platform Solution of the Year category.
Microsoft received nearly 100 entries from more than 30 partners this year, while last year it received 80 entries from 35 partners. The awards ceremony was held at Auckland’s Hilton Hotel.
