Components vendor Belkin has appointed industry veteran Steve Ford as its new country sales manager. He replaces Matthew Simpson who left the company on March 31 to spend more time with his family. Ford was most recently sales and marketing manager at Edtech, but is well known for his previous roles as general manager of Renaissance’s Apple division, which he held until 2007, and his three years as country manager for Toshiba.
He has also worked for Gen-i here and Apple in the UK.
He saw joining Belkin as an opportunity to return to a role with a retail focus.
“I’m looking forward to working with retail partners such as Harvey Norman again. I have had positive dealings with them in the past and helped shape some of the retail strategy for both Toshiba and Renaissance.”
Ford says his plan is to assess Belkin’s effectiveness among partners. “I want to look at ways to expand the Belkin brand throughout New Zealand. I see it predominantly through our retail partners, as that is where the majority of our business is.”
ANZ sales director Stephanie Ogden says Ford’s extensive experience and proven track record in the consumer electronics and commercial channels will facilitate a new growth phase for Belkin locally. “Our growth strategy is going to be phased on short, medium and long-term strategic channel development with technology-related products that appeal to end users.”
Ford joins the company on April 19 and will be based in Auckland. The local team consists of five other staff including administration, customer services and a trainer.
Simpson had been in the role about a year, having begun as national sales manager in March 2008, while Ogden established Belkin’s New Zealand office in 2001. Ogden subsequently won promotion to become trans-Tasman sales director.
