Centrix upgrades Workspace software

Centrix has announced enhancements to all three elements in the latest version of its Centrix Workspace Suite.
The company has upgraded its free Workspace Discovery asset management tool to provide additional analysis to enhance the statistics being compiled by the software.
The company had also enhanced its Workspace iQ feature for monitoring service consumption across an organisation. New components include the provision of a centrally held repository of reports There's also an upgrade to its Universal tool for presenting all software and service assets as a single view, this now includes an HTML option.
"The latest version of Workspace is to give users a summary as to what's happening on their estate, so it's not just producing the raw data, it's pulling it into a report," said Lewis Gee, Centrix's vice president of sales and marketing.
He said that the new version of the tool included an agent to collect information that had been designed not to be an overhead in the data gathering. "It may be that you need more information from a particular area and require additional monitoring but as soon as that data has been gathered, the agent is turned off," said Gee.
"Typically, we find 50 percent of applications are not used, Now, for the first time companies can get some real granularity," Gee added. "The iQ feature provides the granular information, offering specific reports for application licensing.
He said that the software would help companies make the decision to move to desktop virtualisation or providing information to make the decisions about the best way to deliver to the desktop.
The company claimed that one of its customers, a utility company, saved £10m after an audit using Centrix. "The reality is that most people don't need all the enterprise software that's out there," said Gee.
