Hewlett-Packard Co. Friday announced that Patricia Dunn, chairman of the board and director, has resigned, effective immediately. HP had already announced she would be stepping down in January, to be replaced by Chief Executive Office Mark Hurd. But recent reports, citing HP internal e-mail, indicate that contrary to what she has suggested, Dunn in fact did closely monitor HP's investigation into leaks from the company's board.
The California Attorney General and various government bodies are investigating HP's probe, which used possibly illegal means to gather information on employees, board members and journalists.
The news of Dunn's immediate resignation came as Hurd was giving a public statement to reporters.
