Distributor Tech Data has signed a deal extension that will see it sell Akamai Technologies’ security solutions in New Zealand.

Tech Data was first tapped to sell three Akamai solution packages in North America last month.

However, the distributor told ARN these three solutions will now be available to Australian and New Zealand partners.

The three packages will include the following: web application firewall protection; accelerated performance of web and mobile applications and enterprise traffic protection and remote application access.

According to Tech Data, the deal represents Akamai’s first partnership with a technology distributor.

“These additions to Tech Data’s security portfolio provide a cloud- and data-centre-agnostic delivery platform with a defence-in-depth approach, whereby a series of defensive mechanisms are layered for utmost data protection,” the distributor said in a statement.

Tech Data also claimed the deal would boost its “defence-in-depth” strategy, which involves layering a number of defensive mechanisms.

“Defence-in-depth brings a deeper and broader approach to cybersecurity. It’s not just multiple layers of protection — this approach offers many dimensions to thwart attacks and protect valuable information from unauthorised access,” said Alex Ryals, vice president, security solutions, at Tech Data.

“Akamai’s capabilities offer our customers quick and easy access to this comprehensive security solution with unequalled scale and reach.”

The announcement follows Akamai’s appointment of Adam Noall as its Australia and New Zealand channel manager earlier this year
