Enterprise identity governance security provider, SailPoint has spent US$37.5 million on two security startups, Orkus and OverWatchID to improve customer control access of apps in the cloud.

The two new additions will be integrated into the SailPoint Predictive Identity Platform in the first half of 2020.

Founded in 2017, Orkus provides monitoring, control access and authorisation across hybrid cloud environments.

OverWatchID focuses on access control for cloud, applications, hybrid and on-premises infrastructure.

“As the adoption of cloud applications and IaaS environments like AWS [Amazon Web Services], Azure and Google Cloud continues to skyrocket, organisations today need to better address how they control access to these cloud resources to avoid introducing new areas of security, operational and regulatory risk,” SailPoint chief product officer, Paul Trulove, said.

“With Orkus, we’re addressing the increasingly dynamic nature of access in IaaS platforms, enabling customers to leverage AI and ML technologies to continuously monitor access relationships and patterns for every cloud resource.

"And with OverWatchID, we’re adding a new dimension to SailPoint Predictive Identity by tapping into OverWatchID’s use of activity information to improve the application of access controls, particularly in cloud-based environments.”

Additionally, Trulove said by deepening the governance of cloud infrastructures, it was expanding the definition and scope of what an identity governance platform should be capable of managing.

Earlier this year, SailPoint built up its regional presence through the addition of Duo as its a second value-added distributor in New Zealand and the appointment of Ian Teague as its new sales director for Australia and New Zealand.

“Our Australian and New Zealand business is 100 per cent channel-led, and we pride ourselves on a strong identity ecosystem worldwide,” SailPoint vice president for Asia Pacific and Japan Terry Burgess said at the time.

“These new appointments reinforce that we are as committed to our partners’ success as we are to our customers’ success.”
