Auckland-based business analytics software company 9 Spokes has had its significant customer win at Bank of America recognised as a Microsoft "co-sell".

The Australian-listed company also won a deal with Bank of New Zealand in June under Microsoft's One Commercial Partner programme, which delivers global sales reach to start-ups and other partners.

The programme incentivises Microsoft's global salesforce to co-sell solutions from certified Microsoft partners.

9 Spokes develops a business tracking and insights tool that helps SMBs use their data to improve performance.

Sarah Bowden, One Commercial director at Microsoft NZ, described the Bank of America deal as a textbook example of how the programme works to provide partners with access to global market opportunities.

"Microsoft provides a unique platform for partners to scale and accelerate both their growth and reach," Bowden said.

"It's been great to see 9 Spokes continue their winning formula offshore and we are excited about their future co-sell success."

Adrian Grant, 9 Spokes co-founder, said co-sell had lifted the company's credentials with key global banking communities and helped it enter new markets.

9 Spokes won the Bank of America deal in August and last week confirmed it had received its first revenue from the contract.

9 Spokes described the revenue as a one-third payment of an implementation fee to be paid in full before the end of the year.

The total fee equated to a 30 per cent of total revenue reported in the company's 2019 financial year (total revenue reported was $8.2 million) after which an annual licence fee would apply for the following three years.

The annual licence fee equated to 35 per cent of 2019 revenue.

Bowden was appointed to lead Microsoft New Zealand's commercial and partner business in March.
