Spark-owned AI and data unit Qrious has inked a conditional agreement to acquire Now Consulting, the local data consulting division of Wherescape Software.

Qrious said the acquisition was a strategic move that would give it a unique data and analytics offering in the New Zealand market.

Spark CEO Jolie Hodson said the company was focused on further growing its data services and the acquisition was a key step in doing so.

“Data is fast becoming a business’s most valuable asset," she said. "When unleashed effectively, it provides a real competitive advantage.

"We are proud of the position Qrious has already built as a leading innovator in New Zealand’s data and analytics space, particularly following Qrious’ successful acquisition and integration of marketing automation business Ubiquity in 2017."

The acquisition of Now Consulting was an opportunity to accelerate Qrious’ growth, she said.

The merged business will operate under the Qrious brand combining the data, analytics, AI and data-powered customer engagement capabilities of Qrious with Now Consulting’s expertise in data integration, engineering and visualisation.

Qrious CEO Nathalie Morris said she believed the combined businesses will be a powerful offering.

“We’re responding to the growing demand from New Zealand companies for foundational data solutions and services that enable them to unleash intelligence and fast-track their access to the hidden wealth in their data,” she said.

Now Consulting CEO David Morris said the opportunity to immediately offer more advanced analytics and AI services will be of real benefit for the company's customers and our people.

The buy takes Qrious' total staff to over 170 across Auckland and Wellington, making Qrious one of the largest data and analytics specialists in the country.

The contract is expected to be completed in the next few days.

Malwarebytes shoots the breeze with channel, prospects

A Kumeu, Auckland, winery was the venue for a Malwarebytes event for partner and prospect MSPs - with some straight shooting on the side. The half-day getaway, which featured an archery competition, lunch and wine-tasting aimed at bringing Malwarebytes' local New Zealand and top and prospective MSP partners together to celebrate recent local successes, and discuss the current state of malware in New Zealand. This was also a unique opportunity for local MSPs to learn about how they can get the most out of Malwarebytes' MSP program and offering, as more Kiwi businesses are targeted by malware.
