Pivotel has made a major play for global expansion through the acquisition of two US-based mobile telcos for an undisclosed amount.

The Gold Coast-based telecommunications provider snapped up MVS USA and Explorer Satellite Communications in a move intended to increase scale in North America while opening routes into Latin America and Europe.

Pivotel said the acquisitions will bring its annual revenue up to more than $120 million over the next financial year.

“Through acquisitions such as these we are able to access new technology capabilities as well as new markets,” Pivotel CEO Peter Bolger said. “In the telecommunications business, scale is always important.

“We expect to achieve synergies at the network level which will drive improved margins across our now expanded customer base and increase the opportunity to sell our existing solutions to new customers and new markets.”

Of the two purchases, MVS USA was noted for its “strong network” of partners around the world, spanning three continents, and for its “enormous” growth potential.

He added the MVS deal will also “enhance” Pivotel’s service management capabilities through its MVS FLEXX platform.

Meanwhile, Explorer Satellite Communications has a “unique and strong presence in the American and international adventure market”.

"We think they will do great things with the resources of Pivotel behind them and access to a stronger portfolio of products and services,” Bolger said.

The acquisitions came through Pivotel’s US arm, Pivotel America Inc, and together mark the telco’s third and fourth acquisitions in the space of two years.

In 2017, Pivotel snapped up Tennessee-based satellite solutions company Global Marine Networks (GMN) and then, a year later, bought New Zealand-based mobile satellite communications provider Wright Satellite Connections (WSC).

Pivotel Group now has more than 250 dealers and partners across its Asia-Pacific and the America and employs roughly 125 staff across Australia, New Zealand, the Americas, Europe and Indonesia.
